A candadate is someone who is running for public office. Some towns have government. Some towns elect a mayor. The mayor manages the city council. They make decisions like building schools or hospitals. States have government. People who live in a state vote for whom they want in office. Our country and has a government. The president leads the country and has to have the permission of congress to act.
If everyone voted it would take a lot time for things to happnen. Electing a representative is a faster way to get things done. An elected candidate represents the opinion of the majority of the voters. If an elected person does a bad job then we can vote again next time.
People who can vote have to be U.S citizens 18 or older. They have to live in the U.S.A. You have to be registered to vote. People who vote go to voting poles. People vote for candidates.
